LARGE BASS
BASS
Large Bass picked up a bass for the first time in high school, when his friends' band already had two guitarists and a drummer. Through the experience of playing classic rock covers with Max Standby, he learned the basics of the instrument, but it wasn't until college in Chicago -- when the funk bug bit him hard -- that Large Bass really began to study the fine art of laying it down on the one. He co-founded the seminal funk/ska band Service and honed his groove until their break-up three years later.
After moving to St. Louis, Large Bass put aside the bass in favor of the jazz guitar, and while holding down the guitar chair in the Washington University Jazz Band, he met fellow bandmates Watt$on and Danimal, along with bassist Jay Lewis. Watt$on, Danimal, and Lewis formed the nucleus of a funk/rap band in the fall of 2002, but Lewis left soon after to pursue a more experimental musical direction (he later re-united with Danimal in Contraband). Large Bass volunteered to fill his place and has been sweatin' it with Sac Lunch ever since.
